Ama Yangri Trek

This year, instead of celebrating my birthday in the same old corner of Kathmandu, I decided to celebrate on top of Ama Yangri Peak. This short trekking destination is among the most underrated, beautiful, and moderately complex.

I have been continuously hiking and trekking for years, so this trek was easy for me, but other people's experience reckoned that the end hill, or the Ama Yangri peak, is challenging to climb. Undoubtedly, the rise of the ridge is straight up, so be prepared if you are aiming for the Ama Yangri Peak soon.

If you want, you can reach Ama Yangri in a single day from Tarkeghyang. But I decided to complete the trek the hike in three days.

Below, I have elaborated on the itineraries and my three-day experience.

DAY 1- Begining

Kathmandu to Tarkeghyang

We can reach Tarkeghyang on a bike, but I decided to go in a public vehicle. You can get the vehicle from the Jorpati bus stop; it gets packed fully, so either pre-book the tickets or go early in the morning. I reached Bustop at 5 A.M and still couldn't get a seat, so I had to adjust near the driver's seat. The last stop is Tarkeghyang, but my adventure began in Timbu, as I wanted to walk around lush green hills. It takes around 5-6 hours to reach Tarkheyang, even if you stroll.

After reaching the hotel, you can get warm food and tea in a cozy kitchen. I wanted to sleep early so I could hike up speedily the next morning. But, in the Kitchen area, you meet people from around the globe. The story-sharing and interaction become glorious. So, instead of resting, I listened to the stories of foreigners and the local people. Besides the destination, the Kitchen ambiance is the best, where you can eat, drink, sing, laugh, and make beautiful memories.

DAY 2 -Tarkeghyang to Ama Yangri Peak

Start the trek as early as possible to see the sunrise. I tried to walk as early as possible to watch the light from the peak but couldn't. Luckily, I was already in Ama Yangri base camp and saw early sun rays. I started at 3:30 A.M. and peaked at 12:00 P.M. after chilling and eating in base camp.

Though the trail is easy till base camp, the last hill is unexpectedly difficult so be prepared.

After enjoying the destination, I reached the hotel at 3:30 P.M. As there was nothing much to do, I sunbathed with tasty waiwai.

DAY 3- The end

Tarkeghyang to Kathmandu

You can return from the public vehicle if you want, but again, I decided to walk. You will get an early morning bus that leaves at 8 A.M every day. I walked at 4 A.M in the morning to the Timbu bus stop. If you want, you can come back from Sermangthang, but the only bus on the route leaves at 8 A.M. It was impossible to catch the bus, so I ended up at Timbu bus stop and got back to Kathmandu by 11 A.M. bus. It is the only bus that brings you back to Kathmandu.

Ama Yangri trekking is one of the underrated destinations. Still, it is the best as there are fewer hikers, and you can enjoy the serenity to the fullest without disturbance. Also, the best part of the entire trip was Helambu's water.

This three-day trek can be completed with a minimum budget of 2000 Nrp to 5000 Nrp, depending upon the food and the hotel room you stay in.
