Why watching Nepali reality show Blind Date is good for your mental health ?

OK! so just completed watching episode 5 of Blind date, a Nepali reality show. I am sure that the way I feel about this show is mutual with the majority of the viewers. You are aware that this show is scripted, cringe on so many levels ,yet still can't stop watching it. It gives you a complete drama, comedy, and imbecile side of the society we often forget exist.

Many people are notably clear about this show's main objective so I won't be emphasizing any of it and directly discuss, how this production we love and hate simultaneously benefits mental health.

1. It releases your stress

When you watch this video you get a content of laughter in every minute. It gives you a good laugh listening to their rap, one-liners, watching facial expressions, and self-invented dance. It almost makes you forget about your previous worries and lightens the mood.

We have been studying ,and hearing that laughter is a medicine and it's true. Laughing helps you to reduce stress hormone as it increases the endorphin ,and boosts your immunity by increasing the number of T-lymphocytes through activation of natural killer cells, which multiply white blood cells and other chemicals in the body (Yim,2016). Also, Bennett et al. (2003), in their study has shown that watching funny videos significantly decreases stress. So, undoubtedly this show is one of the factors that has been reducing stress amongst numerous viewers.

2. Increases your happy hormone

Finding humor in life is the best way to increase your happy hormones. The therapist suggests Laughing therapy to stabilize your mood and one of the best techniques is by watching funny videos.
When you watch Blind Date, the funny clips stabilize your mood enabling your serotonin. Whereas your endorphin is intensified through motor activities; via laughing, banging your head, sharing with your friends, making memes, and reaction videos.
Single people certainly know they don't need such a show to find love. People in relationships feel fortunate to have a partner in their life after watching Blind Date, which strengthens their love hormone which is oxytocin. Moreover, when you feel happy watching such a video you inevitably wait for the next episode such excitement boost dopamine; a motivational hormone.

3. Boosts your self-esteem

The worse you feel about yourself less motivated you become resulting in poor self-esteem. Not judging the participants ( I am a big fan of C-Lu didi, as she lives her life the way she wants without caring what others think about her, an attitude everyone desires) but reading the comments of the viewers I anticipate that they feel good about themselves regarding their face, body, attitude and overall life itself in comparison to the participants of this show.

4 . Sense of belongingness to a group

As per said by Kendra Cherry from Verywellmind "The need to belong, also known as belongingness, refers to a human emotional need to affiliate with and be accepted by members of a group." Today we desire more virtual comfort and acceptance than physical support. I am emphasizing this as if you see in the comments of Blind date, they share "This group brought me here..." or " so and so youtube community brought me here..." This shows that you belong to a particular group or a virtual community.

We often define ourselves in connection with the group we associate and represent. When you see the name of such a community or youtube channel you subscribe to, it shows you belong somewhere, eventually boosting your self-esteem and confidence.

5.  Helps you decrease depression

More than a reality show Blind Date is synonymously known as a comedy-drama by the viewers. When you watch or add such burlesque in your life it can be a powerful tool to decrease your depression (Antonio & Horni,2014). Depression is a symptom that includes low mood, energy, concentration where you lose pleasure and self-esteem in life (Best Practice,2011). The study also shows that when you add positive humor in life it alleviates negative emotions stabilizing your mood with better sleep and decrease your depression.

I know there are lots of loopholes in this show which makes you cringe but we can't also ignore the humor that has somehow improved the mental health of viewers.
